Q + A:
When did you experience your coming of age?
I would say coming out of the closet at 24 was my coming of age. Before then, I had been battling with the shame I had ingrained in me from a religious upbringing about being gay. Once I came out, I truly felt like I could be myself completely: both the masculine and feminine sides.
When did you first fall in love? How did you know?
I would say when I met my first boyfriend. I realized that I didn’t want to call this guy my “good friend” to people I introduced him. It got those “tingly” feelings that you hear about, which were different than any of the other feelings I had with other people.
What makes you feel alive?
Anything that raises goosebumps on my arms or gives me an adrenaline rush: from the wind in my hair to travelling to a different city.
What's one thing you want the world to know about you?
I have two right kidneys. But no really: it’s a birth mutation called an “ectopic kidney” meaning my left kidney sits behind and below my right one. Also, I looooove to dance.
Who is your hero?
I would honestly have to say, my husband. Not only because we’re married, but because he truly helps me to see myself for what the world sees and not what my interior critic may say. He helps balance me out when I’m feeling everything around me sway. He’s my rock and I love him for it: he’s my hero.
